‘An Ode to Hill and Adamson’
Short Film commissioned by The National Gallery, London
Role - Creative / Art Director / Co-director
A Studio BC / Cap Gun Production
Fine artist Maisie Broadhead and myself were commissioned by The National Gallery to create a film to be exhibited as part of the major public show ‘Seduced by Art’.
The film re-stages an early photographic portrait of Lady Eastlake by the pioneering photographers David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson. Inspired by the heavily staged photography of the duo’s work, the film lays bare the many tricks and illusions at work in the construction of an apparently simple single image.
It was an incredible honour to be commissioned and exhibit in The National Gallery where the film hung alongside the original Hill and Adamson print, and amongst work by the likes of Julia Margaret Cameron, Sarah Taylor-wood, Martin Parr and historic paintings from the NG collection.
The film has also screened on Channel 4’s Random Acts short film showcase.
