KFC ‘Homecoming’
Role - Director
It was all over the news - UK astronaut Tim Peak was returning home after a year aboard the International Space Station, and KFC wanted a piece of the action.
I wanted this to be a classic ‘rug-pull’ gag, so we needed to keep the quality of art department, cinematic photography and post-production all top notch; never feeling off or hammy. In pre-production I geeked out on the ISS and NASA landing pods to be as faithful as possible with all the art direction details. I also wanted to incorporate elements of archive into the edit to give it a good sense of realism. In the end most of the archive material was created artificially in post production, and the space pod interior set was actually shot in a tent in the car park right next to the KFC restaurant.
